We had 11 attendees staying at my two farms representing rescues throughout the Southeast and California. These people work tirelessly and selflessly throughout the year to save & rehabilitate horses.
I made some new friends, learned quite a bit that I didn’t already know about the ins & outs of rescue and got to visit with two rescues that have been close to my heart. Lana & Becky from Therapony in California and Lori from Sunkissed Acres.
I am honored and humbled to be able to be a small part of the noble and important work these groups do. Please consider a donation…it is always greatly appreciated.
Here is a summary of the event from my friend Lori…who could have been a poet had she not gotten into horse rescue.
This past weekend, myself and 7 others from Horse Rescue United, had the opportunity to gather at the Rescue Horse Coalition in Nashville. It was well attended by rescues from all over the US. I had a chance to connect with some of the rescues I love. Deanna Kafka’s donkey rescue has always had a piece of my heart and more so now. She is so real and so passionate. A small group in California, Therapony, saving them one horse at a time with long term goals. We left with a lot of valuable information but even more so with the realization that we are all equal. We all face the same trials and tribulations. We all deal with the heartache and the successes. The struggles are shared clear across the board whether we have one or 150. Spending the weekend gathering information, sharing experiences and cheering each other on brings on a renewed energy. All the while watching Buddy and Henry both make it home added to the glory. It was a weekend I won’t forget for a while I can assure you. And sitting with the groups from Georgia who I work with on a daily basis, the best. We laughed, we cried, we planned, we committed. We are rescue.
On a beautiful Saturday morning a few weeks ago…we made our way to Georgia to help out Sunkissed Acres in their annual fundraiser. My very first employee & good friend, Sheila, was visiting from California so she wanted to come along and help out. It was so nice having her along for the ride…and she was even lucky enough to be a judge in the costume contest. Continue reading →

It’s our favorite time of year and also our busiest. Our Island Cowgirl elves are hard at work in the studio prepping tons of beautiful pieces to be shipped out for the holidays…. We get excited each year about putting together the December window display because of its cheery christmas vibe. It seems like everyone is filled with the spirit of giving this time of year… and we love being a little part of our customers holiday joy. We also offer adorable gift wrapping to our in store customers during the holidays for that extra festive touch…. its a toss up as to who enjoys our wrapping more, the person receiving it or us for putting it together, making a pretty present!
Stop by to enjoy this years decorations and shop around!
We had so much fun doing our holiday shoot this year…We had a lovely, wonderful model, great inspirational jewelry stacked up high, some holly for good cheer….and of course Nigel photo-bombing the whole shoot.
This included doling out kisses to our model, hiding his well worn tennis ball in the wreath of holly and just generally sticking his nose in pretty much every picture. He even smiles for the camera…such a ham, it was impossible to do anything but laugh. And throw the tennis ball and snap as many pictures as possible before he came bounding back into the shot.
Here are a few of the great shots we managed to take without Nigel. Our theme this holiday season seems to be inspirational jewelry and love. If you like what you see…stop by our website at www.islandcowgirl.com and pick out the perfect gift for your love!
There were so many fun halloween festivities this year we’re still reminiscing…
Its a Halloween tradition to pass out candy from our flagship store front, on Main Street in Huntington Beach. All of the local business partake in this huge event that brings the community together and allows the little kiddos to come out dressed up to trick or treat!
We saw some of the cutest little tots strolling for candy. This itty bitty crew composed of snow white, the evil queen and their monkey friend was one of our absolute favorites. They were so sweet and excited.
The kids weren’t the only ones having the fun. Our next door neighbor from the salon came as a head turning ‘Marge’ from the Simpsons. It was quite the get-up! She had everyone smiling and laughing
…and of course it wouldn’t have been a true family holiday with out grandma Sheila and our furry kids. Bonnie was sneaking up from behind to steal some candy (the usual).
It was another wonderful holiday spent as an Island Cowgirl family.
