I finally found something to do with my vintage soda bottle obsession…finally finished this project last night. I have been thinking about and planning to do it forever!
My husband and I love collecting Vintage Industrial objects and finding cool ways to repurpose them into functional art. We fall in love with a little piece of Americana and just can’t bear to see it end up in a land full somewhere.
It is one of the reasons we love Nashville so much. There are endless flea markets and antique fairs where we find a discarded treasure. We bring it home and give it a second life.
“here in the south we don’t hide crazy…we parade it around on the front porch and give it a sweet tea…”
It is starting to warm up here in Tennessee and is already feeling a lot like summer. The fireflies are lighting up the pasture each night and the rainbows run across the sky almost with each rainfall. And of course the sweet tea is flowing. Grass mowing is a national past time here and the grass practically grows while you are watching it.
We have put together some of our favorite summertime pieces from our collection…So hit the beach and make sure you channel your inner mermaid.
We will be right here mowing grass, catching fireflies, chasing rainbows & drinking sweet tea. And making cool jewelry.
Mothers Day is coming up on May 14th…don’t forget mom! We have some great Mothers Day gift ideas on our website to make shopping easy for you. Show mom some love and get her something special…Check them out!
What do you do on Easter you live in a small town like Leipers Fork? Well you have dinner with your neighbors of course. All 400 of them. Well it was supposed to be about 200 but a few extras showed up.
One of the magical things about living in Leipers Fork, TN. is the sense of community and genuine southern charm. People get to know each other. They ask how you are…and really mean it. And we have events like Feaster.
The directions were simple. It was held in the big field across from town…Bring a dish to pass and bring your fine china…because paper plates were not allowed. Dress was hillbilly chic and the blessing was at 3:45pm…Dinner was at 4. Clean up and take what you brought in because “we ain’t your mamma”.
My husband took the hillbilly chic comment very seriously. Real men do wear purple.
There was a full on Easter egg hunt complete with the Easter bunny and a golden egg…They tried to arrange it by age but since they all ran into the field at the same time…the announcer said…”oh heck…let them all go.” You can’t really hold back an Easter egg hunt, can you?
The Easter Bunny was pretty cute…but I still think my husband is cuter.
Of all the bracelets we sell…this one is one of the ones that people will panic about the most if they lose it. I know because I get the emails. It has become a personal mantra to get them through their tough times or overcome their struggles and try to realize their dreams.
It is etched with one of my favorite quotes from Joan of Arc…“I am not afraid, I was born to do this.”
Does it really get any better than that? Sometimes that is just the reminder you need to put your fear aside and just move forward. So often we get stuck in a comfortable place and have a hard time moving past it to where our dreams lie. This bracelet can help…at least I have been told!
Well it just seems like a puppy sort of a week…not only do we have new puppy paw t-shirts but we also wanted to share with you one of our best selling rings. Our awesome Puppy Paw Ring.
After all…we all know how much we love our dogs. Wearing this ring is great way to be reminded of them when you can’t have them near. We even carved a little heart on either side ’cause we love them so much.
Available is sizes 6, 7 and 8 from our ever so easy to order from website. I spend a LOT of time coding the website so I am always extra excited when we get orders. A lot of people do not know that aside from being a jewelry designer and riding horses…I am also an uber nerd. Who would have thought?
I have been working on some new t-shirt designs and of course the one thing I thought was missing was a dog paw…because we all know how much we love our dogs.
I am modeling the t-shirt in all my farm glory…and although you may see horse snot on it the actual color is heather grey with a dark grey paw. On the back there is the message “i love my dawg” written near the collar. (’cause its true)
You may order by calling the store directly at 714-580-9909. They come in sizes Small to X-Large…and are a pretty awesome cut. (ie…not super tight) I love them because they are super duper soft as well. We hope to have them on the website very soon! But in the meantime feel free to call the store. They are real friendly there. Southern hospitality and all.
I promise if you order one…yours will come sans horse and dog snot. Unless of course you would like it embellished and in that case Sundance charges extra.
Spring has come to the Island Cowgirl farm and it is glorious. We watch from the deck as the back ridge past the creek becomes green almost before your eyes. The horses could not be more excited about the spring grass coming in. For those of you who don’t have horses, grass is the horsey equivalent to Ben and Jerry’s ice cream. And Sundance loves him some Chunky Monkey.
My sweet husband also had these stall signs mad for me out of local reclaimed barn wood. He was nice enough to put them up for me one fine Sunday morning. He said he had to really refrain from changing Libby’s to read Hippo instead of Liberty Belle. As you can see she is not very amused by his humor. It doesn’t help that he has also assigned them hypothetical rapper names of Lazy J and Miss Eats-A-Lot.
Miss little muppet feet looks pretty in pink. Tennessee country life in all of its glory…I love that pink tree that blooms every spring. Even if it does attract lots of lady bugs in the fall…It is still my very favorite tree. If only because Libby looks so pretty next to it.
This blog has been a little quiet lately. I would like to say that life got a little hectic and crazy and I didn’t have time to post…but that wasn’t really the case. For me life pretty much stopped in its tracks.
I awoke on Thanksgiving Day unable to walk and in excruciating pain. My left leg was paralyzed and I was told that I would need emergency back surgery. I went from being a very active person to not even being able to lift my head to drink out of a straw. I was staring down the barrel of a four month recovery at the very least…if I recovered at all. Those of you that have gone down the scary road of back surgery know that it is not a guarantee of anything. I had to relearn how to walk, right down to the baby step basics.
I was so blessed to have an amazing and strong husband who not only took care of me, a farm, two horses but also got my business through the Christmas holiday. My employees were amazing and I felt so very blessed to have them as they truly function as one big amazing team. Everyone pitched in and did what it took to get the job done.
And a big grateful thanks to my friends who came over every afternoon in the dead of winter to help with the horses. And my in-laws and mother who cooked and baby sat me.
I am better and walking now. And riding my horses who got a little fat and sassy. And beginning the new summer collection. You better believe that it is gonna be a whole lot about gratefulness, gratitude and love. xoxo
We moved to Nashville three years ago from California on a wing and a prayer. And with a house, a horse, a dog, a store, a studio, two storage units and three vintage cars. But a wing and a prayer sounded much more romantical. We were in search of a simpler life and some much needed elbow room.
As you know Nashville is all about the live music. It fills the streets…it’s the first thing you hear when you land in the airport. We even have live music at the grocery store.
Our Guitar Necklace is our ode to the spirit of love and music we have found in Nashville.
Wishing everyone tons of holiday sparkle and love…Don’t forget to put a little Island Cowgirl Jewelry under your tree for everyone! Of course if you are named Nigel…you may just want to hide your tennis ball.
Some of the up cycled artwork that is so popular at our Island Cowgirl store in Marathon Village. If you happen to be in Nashville come by and say howdy…we have the works of over 100 artists here…as well as my entire line of jewelry. We are loving these inspirational wood signs…they are a big hit with our customers.
We are crushing on our new engagement rings…I am madly in love with halo engagement rings after having made one for my own engagement ring. We have a heart shaped ring surrounded by a halo of sparkly delicate diamonds that we have dubbed our Clementine Halo Ring.
You may have one custom made in 18k yellow gold, 18K peach gold or 14K palladium white gold. The best part is that we offer a traditional diamond center stone or a more budget friendly, eco-conscious option of moissanite. Both are brilliant halo engagement rings and have their own unique characteristics. We also have a rainbow of sapphire center stones to choose from as well.
On the right is our Helena Ring Halo Ring which I am in love with. It is a very unique halo engagement ring that can be customized with all of the different stone options that we offer.
